Honesty and Ethics:
I have always set high personal standards for myself, and I promise to do more than pay lip service to honesty and ethics. We hear politicians talk the talk all day long while scandal after scandal unfolds. I can only tell you this: I will not be involved in any political scandals or unethical behavior. I will uphold the highest standard of service to my constituents, my community, my district, my state, and my country.

Taxes and Budget:
For the most part the government has no money that it doesn’t first take from someone else, and so it is my belief that a nation cannot be taxed into prosperity. Conversely, history has shown that reduced tax rates result in increased revenues into the Treasury. I’d like to achieve a balanced budget through lower taxes, practicing good stewardship of the people’s money, and resisting reckless increases in the Federal Budget through vast new social programs and entitlements. I’ll work for a “Back to Basics” approach to spending.

Border Security and Immigration Law:
If the current immigration laws are not being enforced, the answer is not new or more laws. It only seems common sense that there should be a fence along our borders. We need that for our security. That’s not to say that we let no one in – we just need to know who is coming in, when and why. People still want to come here for the opportunities that Liberty affords. My father’s parents and my mother’s grandparents sought those opportunities and I believe that tradition should continue. If our economic engine requires the labor force, then we need a mechanism to provide it. However – we should not provide incentives for or reward illegal immigration.

Military Retirees and Veterans Benefits:
As a daughter of an Air Force retiree (and his surviving spouse) and the wife of an Army retiree, I know first hand the frustration many retirees & veterans feel over Congress’ meddling with their benefits in order to “save” a few dollars in the budget. I find this reprehensible and disgraceful. When men & women volunteer to potentially put their lives on the line, or have retired after serving honorably, or have been wounded and disabled in service to their country, they should be taken care of. Period. It is fundamentally dishonest not to keep promises made to them or to treat them like second class citizens by putting them at the bottom of the healthcare food chain. There are some things this Nation can afford to do and taking care of our Veterans is one of them. I will work tirelessly toward reform in the VA System, and will work to increase the budget for retiree benefits.

National Security:
In Many ways, the threats we face today are more serious than the Cold War threats of a few years ago. Since I believe that the United States is a force for good in the world, I also believe that it needs a strong modern military. In an asymmetrical war such as is the War on Terror, we cannot stay on the defensive; we must keep our enemies on the defensive, and let our forces fight them “over there” instead of “over here”. I believe that as a nation we have a moral obligation to provide our men & women with our complete fiscal and moral support. Never in our history have we spent less on our military (in terms of percent of GDP) so I firmly believe there is room in the budget to do this.

Infrastructure:
I will work to remove regulatory roadblocks that stand in the way of building the infrastructure we need. People are coming in record numbers to the United States and California in particular. They all need water, electricity, housing, and transportation. The industries that support, build and maintain this infrastructure are also vital to our economy. While conservation is a good thing, we cannot conserve our way into meeting the demands in these areas. I believe that using new emerging technologies combined with our entrepreneurial spirit, we can build the infrastructure we need while treading lightly in regard to the environment and without breaking the budget.
